They have continually nose-dived in terms of PR and they simply don't seem to care. They don't really care much about their customers and/or offering support. They only care about the OEM market and the normal retail market is just extra money to them. Cyberlink has used and abused their monopoly on the market.

PR-wise Corel can only go up because they have always offered the weakest software player and with their adding of bitstreaming in the 2010 version I give them some credit. Considering the quality of their product this is a pretty good scam on their part. In short, CyberLink overcharges both new customers and pre-existing customers who upgrade.

CyberLink also likes handing out special upgrade-only installers rather than giving all purchasers a full installer so that when you may reformat your system you don't have to go through a game installing two previous versions of PowerDVD before finally getting the latest major release installed. The reduced price offered to pre-existing customers are a joke and can hardly be considered a discount. I used PowerDVD since like version 2 or 3. Cyberlink doesn't much care about its loyal users. Arcsoft has great deals from time to time, as well, and I've purchased TMT2 and TMT3 at huge discounts. It doesn't handle HD-DVDs and I consider WinDVD to be the weakest of the major software players but that was a nice deal.

Corel just had a deal on WinDVD where the full version could be had for $29. In the end, it might be time to think about alternative players including upgrading to PowerDVD9 which I am not a fan of even mentioning. Some people have reported being able to use older versions of PowerDVD with AnyDVD when PowerDVD itself wouldn't handle the disc by itself. It should also be noted that since AnyDVD HD removes AACS that hurdle is removed for the software player having to deal with. I, personally, don't have a solution for you.

I gave up on PowerDVD and Cyberlink's constant bugs, addition of garbage like Moovie Live, complete lack of product support, and continually ripping you off with high upgrade prices when a new version is released. It contains less bugs than CyberLink's software and it's updated fairly regularly. I've been using Windows 7 for some time now and the only software player I have installed for Blu-ray and HD-DVD playback is Arcsoft TotalMedia Theatre 3. They consider HD-DVD dead, there's no point for them to keep supporting a program that did handle HD-DVD, and they want people to upgrade to PowerDVD9. Why would it work and then not and it's something that aren't interested in fixing. I can't help but speculate that CyberLink did this intentionally. I have also heard that later updates for PowerDVD7 make the program unusable under Windows 7 yet previous PowerDVD7 versions did. PowerDVD7 has received no updates since December of 2008 that I am aware of and they have essentially dropped support.

All the major players receive an update every 3-4 months.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'll be buying AnyDVD as soon as I close on the house (after Christmas) but would really like to know things will work, regardless, and would like to watch some of my discs!Ĭlick to expand. There are certain updates that will always be required for playback of new discs due to AACS.

EvoParser.dll was renamed to EvoParser.bak to kill the update request (per past experience and AVS forums) before PowerDVD was run, but the update request still comes up and nothing but DVDs will play. PowerDVD recognizes them in the play menu but either, A)prompts me to get the newest update (which has audio sync issues with HD-DVDs) -principally with BDs, or B)shuts down shortly after pressing play on HD-DVDs. DVDs still show up as DVDs and still play, but BDs and HD-DVDs only show as CDs. What gives! I've uninstalled AnyDVD and used a regcleaner, uninstalled and re-installed PowerDVD following all the original steps that have worked in the past, and tried this a couple times with the same results (nobody give me that line about the deffinition of insanity, please). Well, the trial period expired while I was out of town and now I can't get BDs or HD-DVDs to play at all.not even old ones! :bang: Before it expired I could turn it off and old titles worked fine. The trial madeup for Cyberlink's sorry excuse for software.but I didn't have the bones to buy it just yet since I am buying a house and every penny counts.
